Innovation Workshop - DR Kunal Parikh and Umang Patel
Kunal is a faculty member in Biomedical Engineering and Ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins University, and is Founder & Managing Director of the Global Institute for Vision Equity, a social venture studio that builds and supports transformative technologies and companies to enable equity in eye care globally. He has founded, led, and raised funding for several social enterprises and life science companies, including Core Quantum Technologies, Social Innovation Lab, Access HEARS, and Eyedea Medical. He has been recognized as a Leader of Tomorrow for the Mid-Atlantic bioeconomy and named to Forbes 30 under 30 in Healthcare.
Umang is the founder of Cloverbook, an app used by photographers, DJs, and creatives to manage bookings and plan events online. His previous startup, PayTango (Y Combinator W’13), designed hardware that linked the cards in your wallet to your fingerprints – simply touch to pay. When he's not developing products, Umang can be found DJing weddings across the nation and playing tabla at his local Jain temple. Umang is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University.
